SASA - Southern African Start-up Awards

The best Mozambican entrepreneurial ideas are awarded in the SASA Gala.

“Celso Domingos, Country Manager of SASA in Mozambique, said that Mozambicans are starting to appreciate the entrepreneurship spirit that makes the business ecosystem even more interesting. The selected start-ups will represent Mozambique beyond the borders of the country.”

The Southern Africa Start-up Awards – Mozambique, is an initiative of the Global Start-up Awards, that aims to ignite the entrepreneurship spirit of each Mozambican. The main goal of this initiative is to select potential local candidates in various categories through a nationwide competition, with the purpose of participating in an international Start-up Gala held in China in December of 2018.

The best Mozambican entrepreneurial ideas awarded at the Mozambican Start-ups SASA Gala receive recognition trophies at the Southern Africa Start-up Awards (SASA) Mozambique.

The idea of awarding the best star-ups is to gather talented entrepreneurs, investors and other thought leaders in the technology world to celebrate the high calibre founders that not only run their businesses with passion, but also take on the responsibility through focused execution of their ideas.

SASA Mozambique is an event that allows Mozambique to be represented in the world map in terms of entrepreneurial ideas and projects, the winners will participate in the International Start-up Gala taking place in China in December this year. It is the first time that Mozambique will be represented in this international event, allowing the best Start-ups to have a worldwide exposure.

Super Mentores

The platform to support entrepreneurs and micro companies, named Super Mentores, that was established to boost and motivate entrepreneurs and micro business owners nationwide, it is an entrepreneurship development programme conceived by CDBRAND, in partnership with IPEME.

The purpose is to stimulate entrepreneurship in Mozambique, through supporting MSMEs, ensuring guidance and counselling to entrepreneurs so that they can grow professionally, bettering their life quality and ensuring the economic development of the country.

The purpose of this program was to ensure the facilitation of financing and investment, and for this, the 15 businesses had to work to be properly legalized and structured, with an organized business and accounting plan.

Super Mentors (SM) had a fundamental presence of four (4) super mentors, namely, Mariam Umarji, Felisberto Botón, Nuno Quelhas and Rogério S. Gudo, who dedicated their time in analysing the projects presented, and gave contributions and added value to improve them.

Super Mentores Gala Awards

DSD Capital Award in the amount of 500 thousand meticais

Polana Serena Hotel, in Maputo City, was the location chosen for the Best Super Mentors Awards ceremony. The event awarded the best protagonists of the Super Mentores Programme, first edition.
At this gala, the 15 winners were distinguished with the best training company. On this business night, partners, businessmen and other guests were present.
At the ceremony, the Best of the Best prize was awarded to the company Betoni Pré Fabricados Lda, dedicated to the manufacture of prefabricated building materials by the entrepreneur Holden Mariquel, which received the DSD Capital Award in the amount of 500 thousand Meticais

The event also awards the following prizes: Entrepreneur Example awarded to the company N’Services (Pró Serviços); Social Entrepreneur prize awarded to the company Hemale; Best Female Entrepreneur prize awarded to Ancha’s Gluten free; Innovator Prize, which distinguished the company Saint Simion Food.

Please note that these are the 15 Super Mentors winning candidates. Not only the entrepreneurs were awarded, but also the Super Mentors partners, namely: Best Investor awarded to the company DSD Capital and Best Training Company awarded to the company Accountia
